The Compliance team provides an essential service to Appleby by providing an advisory service to firm personnel and by monitoring firm activities to enable it to comply with the relevant laws, regulations and internal policies.

The Compliance team is required to work with the firm to identify and manage its risk exposure by ensuring that the systems and controls which exist are effective and relevant in order to protect the firm from both internal and external risk factors, whilst encouraging a culture of compliance and ethical standards.

The purpose of the Compliance Administrator role is to provide support to the MLRO/MLCO and firm by conducting the allocated responsibilities in an accurate and timely manner.  The role will involve completing duties for the Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen offices, with occasional support to the Group as needed.

The Appleby Legal Scholarship Programme has been established since the inception of the Truman Bodden Law School in the early 1980’s to provide financial assistance to young Caymanians intending to pursue a career as a lawyer.

In 2023 it was renamed The Liesl Richter Legal Scholarship Programme in memory of Corporate Partner and past recipient, Liesl Richter. It provides funding for a law degree and subsequent post-graduate qualifying courses/examinations at the Truman Bodden Law School, or at an approved overseas university and is worth in excess of USD 150,000.

The Scholarship covers tuition fees, examination fees and textbook costs. All recipients are also provided with four weeks’ work experience each summer in one of our Practice Groups; Corporate, Dispute Resolution, Private Client & Trusts and Real Estate.

Are you a current Bermuda law student pursuing an undergraduate or post-graduate law degree and interested in gaining meaningful internship experience at Bermuda’s leading law firm?

We are currently accepting applications for our 2026 Summer Internship Programme which will take place 17 June – 14 August. The 2026 programme has been designed for students to rotate every two weeks to ensure learning across multiple sectors and specialisms. Interns will work alongside our world-class team of lawyers in the Corporate, Insurance and Dispute Resolution departments. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform complicated legal work under the supervision of an attorney
  • Research and write memoranda
  • Perform administrative duties such as filing
  • Assist with preparation for trials, hearings, and client meetings.
  • Attend trials, hearings, and client meetings.
  • Research legislative histories
  • Prepare and organize files and binders

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Must have completed second year of a recognized law degree or equivalent
  • Experience in a law firm will be considered an asset
  • Must possess strong research, writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Attention to detail and strong time management skills required

Applicants will be required to write a short personal statement of 250-500 words explaining why they should be considered for the Appleby (Bermuda) Limited Summer Internship Programme.  Consideration shall be given to scholarship/bursary recipients.
